HRHS Booster Club Donate Tennis Ball Machine

The Hickory Ridge Booster Club presented the Ragin' Bulls tennis program with a ball machine today.  On hand to accept the gift was HRHS Athletic Director Adam Despot.  HRHS Booster Club representative, Keith Hoover said the need for a machine was made known by an involved tennis parent.  When an opportunity came for a machine over the weekend the deal was just too good to pass up.

The Booster club is always looking for ways to support all Hickory Ridge sports.  You too can provide support in many ways through joining the booster club, donations of time to help at the school or providing matierals for projects. Of course great ideas are espcially appreciated when it comes to generating excitment about our student/athletes.

Porter Ridge pounds the Ragin’ Bulls

The Hickory Ridge Ragin’ Bulls found no treasure in their visit to Porter Ridge of Union County losing a non-conference game 39 – 6. Hickory Ridge was out gunned all night by the Pirates in every facet of the game. Midway through the first quarter, Porter Ridge connected on a 21 yard pass play. With the ensuing kickoff, the Ragin’ Bulls fumbled the ball on the first play, which Porter Ridge scooped up for an easy 8 yard return for another TD. In the matter of 70 seconds on the clock HRHS was down 12-0. About the only bright spot, was the fact that Porter Ridge Place kicker was consistently wide left on extra point attempts.

Hickory Ridge did see two great efforts put forth by the defense. First Danny Book, with 2:23 left in the first half. Book pressured the quarter back into trying to make a pass over the juniors out stretched arms. Book was able to bat the ball down, and then make a juggling catch for the interception. Danny continued the play as he ran over the QB on his way to a 35 yard Interception TD run. This was the only time Hickory Ridge would see the endzone.

The second highlight was defensive safety Dale Brown. Brown demonstrated no quit in him, as the Ragin’ Bulls were falling further behind on the scoreboard. A TD saving tackle, along with many big hits won the applause from fans.

Penalties again plagued the Ragin’ Bulls. Hickory Ridge was flagged 11 times for 122 yards. The news did not come any better on the stat sheet:

Total offense for Porter Ridge: 300 yards, Hickory Ridge: 88. The lowest production out of the Ragin’ Bulls this year.

Up next, the Hickory Ridge team gets a bye week and it could not come at a better time. After the week off, a stretch of conference games begin with Homecoming against First year program Cox Mill on October 2nd.

Soccer Tie up Porter Ridge

Game played Thursday at Porter Ridge:

The Ragin’ Bulls played a much better game Thursday night against the Porter Ridge Pirates. Alex Daniels scored a great goal with about 10 minutes left in the first half, with an assist from Matt Abbott. Our defense held strong through the first half, but the Pirates managed to sneak one by early in the second half. Both defenses played well for the remainder of the game as it ended in a 1-1 tie. Keeper, Drew Andreotti had another outstanding performance snagging many other attempts on goal.

Next game Monday September 14 at Hickory Ridge against Central Cabarrus Vikings

Mustangs Corral the Ragin’ Bulls 28-22

For the second time this year, Hickory Ridge cannot get past a Mustang. Turnovers really hurt the Ragin’ Bulls. Six total give a ways, three fumbles lost and 3 interceptions just gave East Rowan too many extra chances. Total offensive numbers were not that bad, with East Rowan only running 5 more offensive plays than Hickory Ridge. One stat that did show, aside from turnovers, was rushing yardage. East Rowan 245 yards, Hickory Ridge 153. However First downs were very close. East Rowan 14, Hickory Ridge 13.

Leading Rushers

B. Baltimore: 23 carry for 138 yards

C. Cothern: 3 carry for 28 yards

Soccer team drops a tough one 2-0 at Marvin Ridge

Wedneday Night:

The Ragin’ Bulls Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Waxhaw last night to face the Marvin Ridge Mavericks. The Bulls suffered a 2-0 loss against the Mavericks on their home turf. There were plenty of opportunities for the Bulls to score, they just couldn’t finish it out. The weather was bad, the ref’s were bad, and the Bull’s couldn’t wait to get back to their home corral in Harrisburg.

We face another tough opponent tonight in Porter Ridge High School, another Union County School, but the Bull’s are looking forward to playing this game at Wingate College and bringing home a victory.

HRHS at CCHS for the 3rd Time

Tonight makes the third time that Hickory Ridge and Cental Cabarrus face off.  In the two previous meetings, each team has won once.  In 2007, the Vikings won 34-7 at Central, then in 2008, Hickory Ridge won, 26-6 at the Ridge.   So each team has won on their home field.  Look for the Ragin' Bulls to change that stat tonight.

Hickory Ridge JV Football sink Vikings! 28 - 0

Thursday night at the Ridge, our Ragin' Bulls rolled up an impressive win over the visiting Central Cabarrus Vikings.

Three Ragin' Bulls accounted for the 4 touch downs.  The first coming on a 60 yard interception return by Josh Chapman. That gave the Bulls a 7-0 lead at the end of quarter one.  By the half the score was doubled on a 13 yard tackle breaking run by big TJ Allen.

Another 10 yards by TJ Allen gave the Bulls a 3rd quarter score of 21-0, but the Bulls were not done. Andrew Reynolds scampered for 29 yards to complete the scoring and giving the Bulls the win.

Central Cabarrus tried to get on the board very late in the game, but a touch down saving tackle by Garrett Wells preserved the shut out.

Check out the Blog Friday for more on Varsity Football as the Ragin' Bulls travel to the short distance up Hwy 49 to CCHS.

The Bulls played a very aggressive game against the Mustangs, receiving a few yellow cards from the officials, but continue to grow as a “team”, making each game more exciting than the last.
