Mavericks round up Ragin' Bulls

It was hard to tell how well Hickory Ridge would match up agianst the Marvericks of Marvin Ridge. Once the contest was over the question still was not answered as misques and penalties plagued the Ragin' Bulls all night.   Marvin Ridge 31- Hickory Ridge 6

Going into the Union County venue, the game was spotlighted by WBT, channel 3 as one of the early season match ups.  Early on the Ragin' Bulls seemed to have an answer to a 1st quarter 1 yard run by Mavericks quarterback, Tyler Chadwick.  The one big 1st quarter highlight was a 75 yard bomb from Blake Sides to wide out Jacoby Thompson.  After a failed point after, it was the end of scoring for Hickory Ridge.  The next 3 scores posted by Marvin Ridge came on a 22 yard field goal by Matt Frein, then 2 TD passes from Tyler Chadwick to wide out K.J. Brent.  The first was a one handed grab in the left side of the end zone for 8 yards.  The second was 57 yards down the left hash mark.

Marvin Ridge enjoyed short field on many of their scoring drives, that plus misques by the Bulls, never allowed Hickory Ridge to make a challenge.  The second half bright spot came on an interception by Ragin' Bulls DB, Kyle Temple.

Win #1 in the Book

24 hours and 20 minutes after the kick off your Hickory Ridge Ragin' Bulls put win number 1 in the record book.

After Friday nights game was suspended due to lighting, the Hickory Ridge defense really came alive. As we left the Ridge on Friday night, there was a big question about how Hickory Ridge would stop a run attack that seemed to give Carson lots of momentum. Noble Ajakaiye and Nick Carano stood up and really showed what the Bulls are capable of doing. The defense stopped Carson on 3 downs. Once the Bulls offense went back to work, it was Brian Baltimore who looked fresh as ever. Brian's running partner, Cody Cothern ripped through the Cougar D. Baltimore scored a TD to really put the game out of reach. With the final few minutes counting down, the cougars got the ball back near their own 30 yard line. Behind on the score board 25-13, the cougars could never get anything going offensively. Facing a 4th and long the Bulls came up big with a sack.

Hickory Ridge came back with more ground game driving down inside the 10 as time expired.

Final Score Hickory Ridge 25, Carson Cougars 13.

Next week the Ragin' Bulls make the road trip to Marvin Ridge. One of the highlight games covered by WBT Channel 3.

Opening Night, leaves the Bulls with un-finished Business

Bulls fans; The Hickory Ridge season kicked off tonight with visiting Carson High. Carson received the opening kickoff, but an effective Bulls defense came out charging. When the offense took their first possession of the 2009 campaign and tuned it into points.
Cody Cothern scored a TD on a 68 yard run around the right side. PAT good and the Bulls were off to a great start, 7-0.

Coye Still picked up the Bulls second score during the second quarter on a 15 yard scamp through Carson. PAT was blocked, HRHS 13, Carson 0.

Late in the first half, Carson's most explosive weapon, Shaun Warren blistered the Bulls defense on a 30 yard run giving us a 13-7 score at the half.

In the 3rd, QB Blake Sides calls his own number for a 2 yard run to extend the Bulls lead to 19-7. The extra point was a failed attempt to run around the right side after a high snap.

Carson found new life with running back Shaun Warren. He ripped off several big runs capping them off with a 13 yard TD. PAT blocked and we have a game on our hands as we go to the 4th.

Mother Nature stepped in as the Bulls took the kickoff. Officials, taking a safety first approach called for a 30 min delay due to lighting in the area. Once the teams returned from the locker rooms, the game was suspended due to lighting.

Play will resume on Saturday, 8-22-09 at 7 PM EDT to run the final 11:38 of the game clock.

Come on out fans, the game is shaping up to be a good one!
