Porter Ridge pounds the Ragin’ Bulls

The Hickory Ridge Ragin’ Bulls found no treasure in their visit to Porter Ridge of Union County losing a non-conference game 39 – 6. Hickory Ridge was out gunned all night by the Pirates in every facet of the game. Midway through the first quarter, Porter Ridge connected on a 21 yard pass play. With the ensuing kickoff, the Ragin’ Bulls fumbled the ball on the first play, which Porter Ridge scooped up for an easy 8 yard return for another TD. In the matter of 70 seconds on the clock HRHS was down 12-0. About the only bright spot, was the fact that Porter Ridge Place kicker was consistently wide left on extra point attempts.

Hickory Ridge did see two great efforts put forth by the defense. First Danny Book, with 2:23 left in the first half. Book pressured the quarter back into trying to make a pass over the juniors out stretched arms. Book was able to bat the ball down, and then make a juggling catch for the interception. Danny continued the play as he ran over the QB on his way to a 35 yard Interception TD run. This was the only time Hickory Ridge would see the endzone.

The second highlight was defensive safety Dale Brown. Brown demonstrated no quit in him, as the Ragin’ Bulls were falling further behind on the scoreboard. A TD saving tackle, along with many big hits won the applause from fans.

Penalties again plagued the Ragin’ Bulls. Hickory Ridge was flagged 11 times for 122 yards. The news did not come any better on the stat sheet:

Total offense for Porter Ridge: 300 yards, Hickory Ridge: 88. The lowest production out of the Ragin’ Bulls this year.

Up next, the Hickory Ridge team gets a bye week and it could not come at a better time. After the week off, a stretch of conference games begin with Homecoming against First year program Cox Mill on October 2nd.
